Now: Fleet and Network Strategy at American Airlines

Airline Strategist, Data Scientist, and Engineer
I enjoy solving unique problems with data, particularly those related to aviation.
I've been at American Airlines since July 2022, where I've worked on a variety of projects involving fleet strategy, cabin configuration, and network design. Previously, as an undergrad, I worked in an optics laboratory as an undergraduate researcher optimizing antenna designs. I'm a big fan of traveling and spending time outdoors, particularly running and backpacking.
My Projects
Somewhat old at this point, but a sampling of schoolwork, research, and personal projects I worked on before joining American. In most cases full code is available on Github!

Aircraft History Tracker
Joint hardware / software project that shows the current location of the aircraft I have flown on.
Solving Pipe Flow with Neural Networks
Implemented a convolutional autoencoder to predict flow through a pipe, a classic fluid mechanics problem.
"Efficient leaky-wave antennas at terahertz frequencies generating highly directional beams"
Applied Physics Letters, 2020
Nonstop Flight Prediction Model
Model and visualization estimating how many passengers would fly a new nonstop route based on USDOT data.
COVID Vaccine Dashboard
Live tool visualizing vaccine rollout that scraped data using state and federal sources using Python, SQL, and Tableau.
planerange.me
Simple web app created at Hack@Brown 2021 with Jay-Young Cho and Stephen Sun that visualizes aircraft range.
Impact of Aviation on COVID
As part of CSCI 1951A, Data Science, we researched the effect of commercial aviation on COVID rates.
Bubble Generator
Designed and built a single-bubble generator as part of ENGN 1860, Advanced Fluid Mechanics.
Interactive World Cup Dashboard
As part of a course assignment for Data Science, I built a from-scratch interactive dashboard using d3.js

Sometimes I write about the things I do! You'll find a few recent posts here.
Adding neural networks to the flight prediction model
If you saw my previous post, you may have noticed that I chose to use a regression to build the model for a flight prediction model. But
Building a nonstop flight prediction model
Over the past few weeks, I've been working on one of my most ambitious projects to date: buillding a model that predicts how many people might fly on any given nonstop route and then visualizing it in an interesting way. I took a course on data science this past semester where I learned quite a bit about statistics, machine learning, and data visualization, so I figured this would be a great opportunity to apply my skills to a topic I find very interesting.
What markets should a new low-cost carrier target?
With news of David Neeleman's new low-cost U.S. airline (Moxy / Breeze) slowly emerging over the past few years, I've often wondered what my strategy might be if I was starting a new low-cost carrier in the United States. So I decided to do a bit of research to figure out where the most underserved and/or overpriced markets in the continental U.S. are usi
